A little life behind the handmade

Meet the Homesteader

Hi, I’m Mercedes Agueda.

A whole lot of personality in a fun-sized package. Christ above all, and I’ll do just about anything for my people.

You can take the girl out of Stevinson, but you can’t take Stevinson out of the girl. I love a little time outside, a house full of animals, and making useful things with my own two hands.

Some pieces are made for the shop. Others are made simply because someone I love needs them: a tank for myself, baskets to keep my chicks close and warm, and a custom vest and peek-through cat bag for my kitten.

Personal moments and projects, shared as a glimpse into life beyond the shop. These photos are not product listings.

A healthier life.
A life designed by Him.
The heart behind Homesteader’s Hobbies

It started with one small change.

My husband was actually the one who started the changes in our home. First, we got rid of our nonstick pans. Then we changed the oils we cooked with. Before I knew it, I was making my own soap, rendering our own beef tallow, preserving our own food, and learning to create more of what we use every day right here at home.

What began as a healthier way of living became a way of life—more intentional, more simple, and more rooted in faith. Along the way, I felt God giving this journey a bigger purpose: not only to make healthier choices for our own home, but to share what I’m learning and creating with others.

Homesteader’s Hobbies is built on the faith that God can use the ordinary things—growing, making, preserving, serving—to lead us toward a healthier life. A life designed by Him.

Devotions from the Homestead

Faith in the ordinary

Short reflections inspired by homemaking, growing, creating, waiting, preserving and the everyday work that keeps pointing me back to God.

Galatians 6:9 · KJV

Waiting on the Harvest

“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”

A garden grows through days of tending when little seems to change. Faithfulness often looks the same: small acts of kindness, prayer, and care repeated quietly. We cannot hurry every season, but we can keep doing the good God has placed before us today.

Today: Choose one small act of care and do it patiently, without needing an immediate result.

Colossians 3:23 · KJV

Beauty in the Slow Work

“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;”

Washing dishes, stirring a batch, or working another row of crochet may seem ordinary. Yet these tasks give us opportunities to serve with love. Our work does not need an audience to have meaning; we can offer even its smallest details to God.

Today: Turn one familiar chore into a moment of prayer for the person it serves.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 · KJV

Made With What We Have

“In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”

Gratitude helps us notice what is already in our hands: a useful skill, a few ingredients, or time to help a neighbor. Giving thanks does not mean pretending life is easy. It means making room to recognize God's gifts even in an unfinished or difficult season.

Today: Name three gifts you already have, then use one to bless someone else.
